So heres a thought, lets say the Gospel is the center of our lives, I mean like truly the center, is this going to make a difference in how we look?
For instance since the sun is the center of the universe we orbit continually around the sun, you see it’s the center, and our earth is held by the power of the gravitational pull of the sun.
In Romans it says the Gospel is the power of God, hmm, the Power of God. So that must mean the power of the gospel is probably(no it is) greater than the sun.
None of question why the sun is the center, and why our earth doesn’t gravitate away from the sun. Its because the sun is powerful.
So then, if the Gospel is the center, how could our lives ever began to gravitate away? The power of God is much greater than the sun, and its amazing, because most of what I see and hear in Christianity doesn’t see gospel centrality this way.
The Gospel in and of itself is enough to keep us in perfect orbit with Gods will. Paul even says that we are no longer enslaved to sin and death in Romans 8. In other words, the Gospel has performed such a work, it is such a powerful working of God to set us free from sin and pay for our sin, we are no longer enslaved to it.
Yet when I look at my life, there are times when I have to look at how I live, and say its not in orbit. Its not being held together by the all sustaining force of the gospel. In fact, it doesn’t even look like my life is drawn by the power of the Gospel.
Its in light of this that I must ask, and I must ask, and I must ask again and again of the Lord: God put the Gospel in the absolute center of my life. You see the reason my life is not in line is not because our lives can go off kilter when the Gospel is central. Rather its because when our lives go off orbit it is a result of the Gospel not being in the center of our lives. Simply put, our lives our completely off path without the gospel being the center.
This is no exaggeration. Ill say it again, no exaggeration. Apart from the Gospel being central I will absolutely began to drift, and it will not self correct. I need a God ordained shift into axis, I need the Gospel to once again become the center or there is simply no hope.
The Apostle Paul so clearly in Galatians 3 addresses the problem the Galatians were having. You see instead of going to the results of their problems(coming under the law and seeking circumcision as righteousness and other works of the law) he actually points one thing out alone. He says, “Foolish Galatians, who has bewitched you” then he says : It was before your eyes that Jesus was crucified. His diagnosis is that they have not remembered the gospel. That Jesus died for the sin, that there righteousness is in him alone.
My dear Friends, as my life has orbited out of control this week, there is only one Remedy, the Gospel being central. All else is a symptom.
I would ask is your life seeming to orbit out of control, or even a little off course? Remember the Gospel, it is sufficient and is the Power of God. We can be intellectually gospel centered, but functionally, if we are not, our lives go out of control.
